Alchemquest Canon

Alchemquest Canon

Hello to the world, particularly those of you who actually visit the Fudge chat. For those people also on the forum, I offer this post. Ask anything you want about alchemquest, and I'll answer it. This will probably be a bit more useful once I actually complete the typing portion and put it in the files somewhere, but I'm making it live now.

Re: Alchemquest Canon

Could you explain the "Threshold System" a bit? An example would be nice. Thank you, Knaight!

From here on, its setting details only, but I'll indulge this request. The Threshold system is a wound system that translates relative degree to penalties or an instant kill. It is as such:
RD 1: -1/2 wound, two of these gets a -1, 1 is ignored.
RD 2: -1 wound
RD 3: -2 wound
RD 4: -3 wound
RD 5: Killed instantly.

In short, you survive until a blow crosses the threshold, hence the name. A death spiral is built in, so it encourages surrender, fleeing, and all those other things, which can be further encouraged by having NPCs do just that. Specifics can vary, I use a Threshold 5 system with the steepest wound spiral, but there are variations for both threshold and wound spiral. More details will be revealed in war week.

Can you start with a quick description of what "alchemquest" is, for those who haven't been frequenting the Fudge Chat?

All this is going to be elaborated upon in the files later, but a rough explanation.

Alchemquest is a low-medium magic fantasy setting set amidst an archipelago of 5 nations. The setting is deliberately made to be constantly in motion, while small enough for individuals to have a high impact, and is designed for more individual character conflicts. It derives its name from the term alchemy, which is the only magic in the setting, a highly academic field capable of changing matter from one substance to another within limits, the emergence of alchemy is one of the driving forces for change in the setting, from the growth of academic institutions and growth of technology to the decline of monarchy and nobility, not to mention power balance between the five nations.
