New Fudge game released

New Fudge game released

Fudge releases are pretty thin on the ground these days, but there's a new one available: Álderaem from Grunge Works.

I think this might be a first product. The author initially priced it at $10, then changed that to $5 which is much more reasonable for what you get. Even so, having bought a copy I do think it's a little sparse and vague, more in line with a GM's setting notes than a complete product. For example, it uses Skills instead of Attributes, but just points the reader to Fudge to find a list, without any real sense of what fits the setting. Indeed, aside from a few lines indicating that there is both magic and a form of technology in the setting we get very little in terms of what sort of game it is and what the characters are actually supposed to be and do.

That's a pity, as the sketch of a potentially interesting world is there, but it's presented in sparse fragments and implied elements, along with a cover illustration in which the characters are wearing T-shirts and there seems to be a ruined but modern-looking city, making it seem possibly post-apocalyptic. The few spells and enemies include a few that read very much like jokes for the author's home group.

Still, it's good to see more Fudge and hopefully the author will revise and expand the book in future.

‘If a man does not make new acquaintance as he advances through life, he will soon find himself left alone.
A man, Sir, should keep his friendship in constant repair.’
