Some folks on RPG.net have made some good suggestions on how to use the "blotch" in Fudge games over on this thread: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=551125

A blotch represents potential that was not tapped into. Every time that a blotch appears in a roll the player gets a potential point. 10 potential points allows a player to bump a result up or down one rank. An example would be that with 30 potential points the roll may be bumped 3 ranks (from Fair to Superb, or from Fair to Terrible).

This sounds pretty cool, if a bit prone to high book keeping.
The [-] die.

Let's lessen the book keeping then. Give the player's poker chips for every blotch that turns up, and change the rule of ten to a rule of three. Now for every 3 poker chips that you have you can bump a roll by 1 rank. Pay 5 poker chips and you can alter the GM's die rolls by 1 rank.
